At Christ Church North Mesa, community groups are the primary way that making and maturing disciples through the gospel happens Monday through Saturday. All of life is for Jesus Christ.

Upward, Inward, and Outward Communities Shaped by the Gospel

Community groups meet weekly in homes (Acts 2:46). They are designed to help us grow in our full and eternal happiness in Christ. As upward communities, community groups provide a context for members to encourage one another in the good news of the grace and love of Christ, and to grow in submitting to, trusting, and treasuring him. They dig into the Bible, pray, and spur one another on to know God more deeply, and live for his glory and their joy in him. As inward communities, members live life together, know one another, and take care of each other’s physical needs. Discipleship happens most thoroughly when deep relationship is paired with intentionality to speak about Jesus and the Bible (see our page: A Culture of Discipleship). As outward communities, community groups are public and sent into their neighborhoods to reach out to those who do not yet know Jesus. They invite them into their homes and out to restaurants for meals, invite and include them in group meetings, and help with their physical needs. They pursue them in love, and with gentleness and kindness tell them the truth about God and the gospel.

Community For All Ages

Whole families are in community groups together. Children of all ages, under the authority of their parents, are treated as members of group. We do not see children as a distraction, but as a blessing from God. We believe that both children and adults greatly benefit when all ages are in community together.

Geographic

Our community groups are loosely based on geography. Those who live closest to one another can be most effective in living the Christian life together and reaching out to their neighborhoods.

Leadership Training and Multiplication

We want to see our groups grow through people meeting Jesus Christ. Therefore, as groups grow, more leaders will need to be trained up to launch community groups. Existing community group leaders along with church elders will always be discipling others to become the next group leaders, so the gospel can spread in the lives of believers and the communities of those who are not yet Christians.
